Introduction

One of the latest buzz-worthy products from XCM is their new XCM HDMI Blaster. The concept behind the HDMI Blaster is simple; connect a non-HDMI device to an HDMI compatible TV. The XCM HDMI Blaster is straight forward and extremely easy to use. First, connect the power cable into XCM HDMI Blaster, and then connect the HDMI Blaster into your HDTV via the supplied HDMI cable. Finally, connect a non-HDMI device to either the VGA or component inputs on the HDMI Blaster…. Yes, it’s that simple. The HDMI Blaster even has an “automatic power supply management” feature that will automatically turn off the HDMI Blaster when there is no video signal input detected.

Using the HDMI Blaster:

Does the HDMI Blaster have any practical uses? Absolutely! If you own any game consoles that are not equipped with HDMI outputs, but are equipped with component or VGA outputs, the XCM HDMI Blaster will allow you to easily integrate each of them into an HDMI enabled home theater setup. If a device with a standard definition resolution output of 640 x 480 is connected to the XCM HDMI Blaster, like a GameCube, Wii or original Xbox, the resolution displayed on the TV is 1280 x 720. (The Nintendo Wii, GameCube, Original Xbox, PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, PlayStation Portable [PSP Slim] were all tested and worked perfectly.)

There’s no false promises made on the packaging, all of the necessary cables and adaptors are supplied, and it’s extremely simple to setup / use. Honestly, what more could you ask for? Of course, if you’re expecting the XCM HDMI Blaster to upscale a standard definition signal from an older video game console, like the Dreamcast, to a high definition 1080p signal with graphics comparable to the Xbox 360 or PS3, save your money and go buy a new gaming console. The XCM HDMI Blaster isn’t some sort of “miracle device”; it’s a reliable / affordable solution for those of us who wish to connect a VGA / component source into an HDMI enabled display. The XCM HDMI Blaster does its job and does it well.
